Morriston Rotary Club is situated in the suburbs and is one of several in and around the City of Swansea. It was chartered on the 22nd June 1984, is the 64th in District 1150 and its parent club is Swansea. This year's President and icon is Arwyn Lewis who is ably assisted by his committee consisting of Derek Thomas, President-Elect, Simon Boden-Tebbutt, Vice President and Club Secretary, and Paul Wilkins, the Treasurer. The Immediate Past President (as well as all other attending Past Presidents) are also there too for help and guidance if necessary. And finally, the Club members should not be overlooked as they play an equally important role in the Club.
The membership, which currently stands at 28, is roughly divided equally into retired and working persons (that does not mean the retired are inactive!) which is a useful mix for committee work and social functions.
The Club meetings are held at a new venue, which is now Sherwoods, situated in Morriston, every Tuesday at 6.00pm (with exception to the Tuesdays following the Christmas, New Year and Easter Bank Holidays). Each meeting has a set format and in rotation, deal with issues concerning Committees, Fellowship, Business and Fund-raising and there is also a meeting reserved for guest speakers. Common to these meeting is an evening meal and of course, no meeting would be the same without the Club Sheriff, our Sergeant at Geof Tanner (all revenue donated to charity).
With regards to the future, we, as are other Clubs, looking for new blood to help take the Rotary organisation forward and again, like all other similar Clubs, Rotary has to adapt to the ever changing social climate, something which to date has been addressed successfully - though sometimes reluctantly! It is this adaptive diversity that has made Rotary what it is today.
